oh, reallly??!? lol. thought that this was obvious. but here:
ABSTRACT
In this paper, we examine the apparent conflict between artistic and commercial objectives within
creative companies, taking as our point of departure a particularly energetic debate during a
symposium at the 2007 Academy of Management meetings. We surface the assumptions that
underlie such debates, compare them with findings from our research on creative industries, and
identify three “fallacies” that sometimes enter into discussions of art in relation to money. This, in
turn, leads us to propose a framework to support more productive discussion and to describe a
direction for management research that might better integrate art and business practices. We
conclude that despite an inclination to take offense that often attends the close juxtaposition of art
and commerce, which was very much in evidence at that AoM symposium in Philadelphia, the
interests of art, artists, and business can be best served if more commerce enters into the world of
art, not less.

This is at the height of 50′S career. Pushed over 1 mil records the first week that Massacre was released. Since Curtis, and now the botched release of Before I Self-Destruct, I’m not sure he can come back from this knockout. The reason Curtis had such an appeal on his first two albums was simply because fans felt like they were learning something. The conditions of power, money, respect were all infused in both albums. But with the character of the Curtis album, which can best be summed up with the publicity stunt of Kanye vs. 50, his music changed a path unto a more commercialized tone. I Get Money encapsulates that tone perfectly. I initially thought that 50 was an underground artist with commercial appeal, but now when i hear one of his tracks i think of him as an executive trying to sell me something. Sold out or Souled Out. Pick one. This track below represents Fame and 50 cent to me.

for all yall who don’t know, Shad K is nominated for the Polaris Music Prize for his album The Old Prince. Shout outs the boy, we’re trying to get him on the say, so stay tuned. In the meantime here’s more info about this.
Vancouver psych-rockers Black Mountain and rapper Shad — who is currently studying at Simon Fraser University — are among the 10 nominees for the 2008 Polaris Music Prize.
The shortlist for the $20,000 award, announced Monday, also includes Winnipeg rockers the Weakerthans, Montreal’s Plants and Animals and Charlottetown’s Two Hours Traffic.
The award, which is now in its third year, is given to the year’s best Canadian album, based on artistic integrity, without regard to musical genre or sales history.
Black Mountain, a five-member rock outfit from East Vancouver, is nominated for their second full-length album, In the Future. Shad — who calls London, Ont., home, but has been living in Vancouver while he works on a master’s degree — is nominated for his second album, The Old Prince.
The Weakerthans got the nod for their latest album, Reunion Tour, while Plants and Animals are nominated for their first full-length effort, Parc Avenue.
Another Montreal indie act, Stars, is also in the running (In Our Bedroom After The War) along with experimental Toronto band Holy F**k (LP) and electronica musician Caribou from Dundas, Ont. (Andorra).
Ottawa’s alt-country darling Kathleen Edwards (Asking for Flowers) and London, Ont.-based singer-songwriter Basia Bulat (Oh, My Darling) also made the cut.
The first Polaris Prize was awarded in 2006 to Toronto’s Final Fantasy. Last year’s prize went to Montreal’s Patrick Watson.
A jury of 178 music journalists, broadcasters and bloggers from across Canada submitted their top-five picks for Canadian album and their choices were narrowed down to a long list of 40 in June.
The winner will be chosen from the shortlist by a selected jury of 11 music critics and announced at a gala concert event in Toronto on Sept. 29.
The Polaris Music Prize was founded by Steve Jordan, a former A&R executive with Warner Music Canada and True North Records.

For the record, Curtis is the one who likes to make every album release about sales rather than good music, and so rather than talk about how good/bad T.O.S. is, we’re gonna talk about how little it sold.
Billboard put’s the Unit’s first week number at 102,000, which actually isn’t bad if your name isn’t Curtis.
To put that in perspective, Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III, which has been in stores for four weeks, moved 156,000. That’s 54K more than the Unit afterthe first week hype for those of you keeping score at home.
No doubt the same Unit stans who would have spent the day counting Boo Boo’s money had he sold a millie this week, will show up shortly to tell me how I’m “hating” or explaining that Curtis did his real #’s overseas or some such nonsense.
And I mean, it’s whatever. The fact is, I don’t hate the Unit or their music. I enjoyed the shit out of that Curtis and Mr. Cee mixtape, and Return of the Bodysnatchers stayed in the whip for a good two weeks.
What I hate is this shit, and this. This too. All that extra shit is corny and if your true fans had any sense, they’d be insulted by those antics.

MC Lyte’s return to music comes via her new group Almost September. Lyte joins forces with two blokes who have had some success. Whitey and Jason Lee are both writer/producers, and a missed session with Macy Grey one night led to the meeting with Lyte, and the formation of the group.
Almost September’s new single “LOVE” features the blast master KRS-1. He rips as usual. Listenhere.

From Rolling Stone’s Rock Daily:
Starting with album closer “A Little Better,” elpuoC ddO ehTfeatures reversed vocals and backwards beats all in one thirty-eight-minute-long track. While sounding like the soundtrack for a film about Satanists, Danger Mouse’s production still shines through, deemphasizing Cee-Lo’s voice and putting the instrumentation more in the forefront.
